Fort Myers, born and raised
I was born and raised in Fort Myers, a town I love and am proud of, in a family of skilled tradesmen. Construction was the world I knew. I worked alongside them on weekends and summers through high school, building across Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Bonita Springs, and Naples, then went full time and became a journeyman in metal framing and carpentry.
Those years taught me to work hard, solve problems, and take pride in something I could point to and say, “I helped build that.” They also taught me that being good at something isn’t the same as wanting to do it forever.
The turn
At 25, I changed direction. I loved computers, and my plan was simple: become a PC technician. That turned into a career of more than two decades in telecommunications, from helping broadband customers, to engineering the networks behind them, to leading the people who run them.
What drives me
Understanding how things work
Every system has a reason it behaves the way it does, and I like finding it.
Building things people depend on
From a wall to a network to a datacenter, I want the work to hold up.
Helping people grow
Over time, the part I enjoy most is helping other people build careers of their own.
Outside of work
I write about the trails I hike, starting with Georgia’s Mount Yonah. Hiking is my Zen time. Sitting still isn’t for me, I like to move, and oddly enough the effort of a hard hike is the most calming thing I know.
Read the trail notes
My curiosity about AI is what pulled me toward datacenters. I write plain-English guides for people who didn’t grow up with it.
Read the guides
At 25, I changed careers because I wanted to follow my curiosity. Now I’m doing it again, with a few more lessons, a lot more experience, and the same willingness to learn.
